APRIL 2011

2011 Youth and Adult National Championship
Darts Alberta is hosting the 2011 National Championships. Both events will be held at the Mayfield Inn in Edmonton. The Youth Nationals is fast approaching – May 20 to 22, 2011. The Adult Nationals follows only a few weeks later – June 14 to 18, 2011. We are extremely pleased to announce that The Co-operators insurance is one of Darts Alberta’s major sponsors of both events.
We are calling on help from our members to ensure both events are a huge success. Members are encouraged to print our Nationals Sponsorship Package and talk to their bars, pubs, leagues and employers to help solicit additional sponsorship and door prizes. There is also a separate sponsor ad specifically to request Dartboard or program ad sponsorships.
For more information about our sponsorship package, contact Brenda Dietrich, DA Second Vice.
We are also looking for volunteers to assist with many aspects of hosting these events – from on-site fundraising to board set-up and tear-down. Interested in volunteering, contact our Darts Alberta Administrator with the dates and times you are available.

Darts Alberta Officiating Level 1 Course Now Available On Line
We are excited to announce that the DA Officiating Level 1 Course is now available through eLearning.
The objective of this program is to train officiators (referees) for the sport of darts by providing a general overview of various aspects of planning, organizing and running tournaments.
Whether you've been organizing tournaments already or completely new to dart tournament organization, the program offers a wealth of information.
The DA Level I Officiating course will now be primarily offered as an eLearning workshop. Whether you are in Edmonton, Calgary or the far corners of the province, you can take this workshop on line, at your own pace.
The cost of the workshop is $20.00 per participant (DA Member) or $30.00 for non-members.
Contact the DA Administrator if you are interested in signing up for this on-line workshop
Level 2 Officiating at the Nationals
Do you already have the DA Officiating Level 1 Course? Have you wanted to take the NDFC Level 2 Officiating during the nationals but haven’t been able to travel to one? Well here’s your opportunity!
During the Youth Nationals, the actual Level 2 Officiating Course will take place on Thursday, May 19, 2011 from 12 noon to 5:00 pm at the Mayfield Inn, Edmonton. Certification requires that participants complete a practical component during the Youth Nationals. Deadline to register to take the Course during Youth Nationals is April 30, 2011.
During the Adult Nationals, the actual Level 2 Officiating Course will take place on Monday, June 13, 2011 from 8:00 am to 12:30 pm at the Mayfield Inn, Edmonton. Certification requires that participants complete a practical component during the Adult Nationals. Deadline to register to take the Course during Adult Nationals is May 7, 2011.
The cost to take either workshop is $30.00 per participant. However, if you already have your DA Level I Certification, Darts Alberta will subsidize the cost of this course.
NDFC Coaching Program
Being a coach takes passion and dedication. Being a great coach, often requires additional training. Darts Alberta was a major catalyst in the development of the Dart Coaching Development Program, which was adopted by the NDFC in 2005. Since then, many Albertans and other dart coaches from across Canada have taken various levels of coaching education to assist them in developing their coaching skills.
With Darts Alberta's goal of ensuring the continued success and viability of the National Dart Coaching Program, an agreement was struck between the NDFC and Darts Alberta in January 2011. Darts Alberta now administers the entire coaching program on behalf of the NDFC and receives revenue for this administration through participant course fees.
To increase the opportunity for coaches to take these workshops regardless of their location, we are in the process of developing these workshops to also be available on-line for participants. More information will be available on the DA and NDFC websites as each on-line course becomes available.
These courses will also be available during the nationals. Contact the DA Administrator for more details.
