IMPORTANT NEWS RELEASE
As an in-scope Provincial Sport Organization, Darts Alberta is required to follow the newly adopted legislation – Fairness and Safety in Sport Act and Fairness and Safety in Sport Regulation which will take effect on September 1, 2025. Darts Alberta is required to create policy regarding eligibility to compete in female-only dart leagues, classes, divisions, or tournament events. Darts Alberta’s policy also addresses eligibility to participate as a female when an event requires a female as part of a team.
There is a new section on the Darts Alberta website titled Fairness and Safety, located in the top tool bar. This new section includes the new legislation, the new Darts Alberta policy, as well as answers to what we believe will be Frequently Asked Questions from athletes, from league organizers and from tournament organizers. Everyone is strongly encouraged to review all of these documents to gain clarity of how this new legislation affects you.
Our Darts Alberta Administrator will be working closely with each of the tournament organizers and leagues over the next couple of weeks to help them navigate these new requirements. You will also be seeing updated posters for any events that take place after September 1st.
Some may have also noticed the new World Darts Federation (WDF) requirement that is very similar to Alberta’s new female-only eligibility. You will start seeing revised WDF poster referring to “Open” and “Women’s/Girls” events. In the absence of a co-ed or open event being held in Alberta, it is permissible for those ineligible to play in female-only events to compete in male events.
