Darts Alberta has made a difficult decision to increase the Team Alberta Player Fees for those who earn a spot on the team to compete at the National Championships.
This decision was based on two major factors – the first being major budget constraints, the second, a lack of volunteers from members of the 2011 Team Alberta for the most recent Alberta-hosted casino.
If it wasn’t for other dedicated Darts Alberta members and several non-member volunteers, we could have lost all future casinos along with the earned proceeds of $60,000 to $75,000 every two years.
"For those that did volunteer, we can't say thank you enough!"
Since the gaming funds are used primarily to send our youth and adult teams to the national championship, it is expected that those benefiting from the proceeds assist in the raising of those funds.
Our next casino is scheduled for the third quarter (July, August or September) of 2013. Darts Alberta recognizes that 16 to 18 months is a long time to wait to be reimbursed player fees, so a two-tiered system is being implemented.
-
In a non-casino year, the Adult Team Player Fee will be $300.00. If the team member or designated representative works the next casino, they will receive a $100.00 refund.
-
In a casino year, the Adult Team Player Fee will be $400.00. If the team member or designated representative works the next casino, they will receive a $200.00 refund.
-
In a non-casino year, the Youth Team Player Fee will be $150.00. If the team member or designated representative works the next casino, they will receive a $50.00 refund.
-
In a casino year, the Youth Team Player Fee will be $200.00. If the team member or designated representative works the next casino, they will receive a $100.00 refund.
The 2012 Team Player Fees will be based on it being a non-casino year at the lower of the two rates. Pending confirmation of our 2013 Casino, the 2013 Team Player Fees will be based on it being a casino year with the potential of getting your refund only 2 to 3 months later, depending on the actual date of the casino.
If a player earns a spot on Team Alberta in both 2012 and 2013, they would be eligible for the refund from both years if they work the 2013 casino. The eligible refund portion of the player fees are paid immediately after working the casino.

All women that participated in the zone qualifier playoffs are eligible to compete at the 2012 Adult Provincials. See Women’s List for your current seeding position. If you did not compete in the zones or did not confirm participation from an Invitation to compete directly in the Provincials, there is still an opportunity to Buy-in to the provincials at a cost of $220.00 until the 64-player maximum is reached.
We experienced a drastic reduction in participation in the men’s zone qualifier playoffs and only 6 participants are not guaranteed into the draw. Those 6 individuals are reminded that they have first choice (prior to opening registration to Buy-ins) to enter the draw if any of the guaranteed players choose not compete. With an average of only 60 entries each year (based on the last four years), Darts Alberta is confident that anyone that played in zones will have the opportunity to participate. See Men’s List to determine guaranteed participation and your current seeding position. For those men that did not compete in the zones or did not confirm participation from an Invitation to compete directly in the Provincials, there is still an opportunity to Buy-in to the provincials at a cost of $220.00 provided we have not reached the 80-player maximum.
See poster for all registration details.

Darts Alberta was successful in booking a venue for the provincials in its originally scheduled location. The adult provincials will be held at the Penbrooke Community Centre at 6100 – 8th Avenue SE in Calgary, from Saturday, February 18 to Monday, February 20. Further information will be posted soon on potential accommodations near the venue.
For those interested in avoiding the Saturday morning payment line-up, we will be holding a pre-registration again on the Friday evening from 7 pm to 9 pm at Penbrooke. A blind draw, open to any dart players, will also be held on the Friday evening. See poster for all registration details.

First off, thank you to everyone that played the zones this weekend for your diligence in reported to your boards quickly and taking reasonable smoke breaks. We were able to finish early both days.
We have just been informed that Day 3 of the Zones will still be at the old JP Legion. For those that play darts in the legion during the week, it is anticipated that they will be in their new building the week after that (after December 12) but we recommend confirming that with your league.
November-29-11
Unfortunately, the new Jasper Place Legion is not going to be ready in time for this weekend. The Men's and Women's Edmonton Playoff #1 (Saturday, December 3) and Playoff #2 (Sunday, December 4) will be held at the original Jasper Place Legion at 10220 - 156 Street NW.
With such a last minute change, it would be appreciated if everyone could spread the word on this change to as many Edmonton players as possible.
The Men's and Women's were scheduled on the same day because we were anticipating to have the higher number of boards at the new location. With a lesser number of boards available, this weekend could be a little longer than usual and we'd appreciate everyone's patience as we try to get the zone playoffs finished as quickly as possible.
The date and registration times remain the same, it is simply the location that has changed.
November-25-11
It has recently been confirmed, unfortunately, the Ogden Legion in Calgary will be closing down in the very near future. These facilities were booked for the 2012 Adult Provincials on the Family Day weekend in February. With this recent news, the Board is attempting to secure another venue in Calgary. However, with limited facilities available and a short amount of time to find something, it is uncertain whether this will be possible. Other alternative locations, including EDMONTON, are being considered.
Another news announcements will be posted as soon as more details are available. In the meantime, we appreciate everyone's patience while we attempt to get this sorted out.
November-03-11
The dates for the Zone Qualifiers are now posted. (except Fort MacMurray which will be posted as soon as received)
Even if you don't plan to play provincials, playing your Zone Qualifiers will not only improve your physical and mental game, you will help improve the national ranking for the players who will attend the Provincials and Nationals.... and top that off with some good old fashion fun!
Please support your zone :)

It is with mixed feelings that the DA Executive bids Dean Lawson a fond farewell. Dean's wisdom and humour will be sadly missed on the DA Executive. On the other hand, we are excited for Dean on his new career opportunities. It was with heartfelt emotion that Dean provided his resignation due to an extremely heavy workload and educational opportunities anticipated over the next couple of years. Dean, we wish you the absolute best in your work endeavours and we appreciate all of the time you've taken away from your family that you've dedicated to darts over the past several years.
The best part is that not only are we confident that Dean will be back once his workload will allow, he will continue to assist DA whenever he can and will continue to actively coach and officiate.
